"We are not born with maps; we make them" - M. Scott Peck

Start your week off right, finding answers to some of your dilemmas. New to the area, lifestyle change? In a rut?

Circle of Friends is a place to exchange ideas, pool our knowledge, ask questions, share or listen. Each time we concentrate on one topic only. These are fun or serious things that most of us experience, ie job challenges, socializing, coping with inflation, staying healthy, fashion sense, places to explore in DFW and more, (as suggested by you in the coming weeks).

In meeting face to face we exchange rapid fire ideas that bounce off one another. And doing so not only builds bonds, but helps each of us become more self reliant. And that makes life a whole lot easier.

Topic #17 Essentials

Why are we so isolated from one another and what can we do about it? We live in a world of superficial interactions, happy hours, 'supposed experiences'.

We go on from day to day with that dull ache and hide in escapism ending in some kind of hangover. Why do things have so little meaning?

To those of us who have weathered these feelings and come through with greater meaning share your journey with us. We all could use encouragement in these times.

Notes from Session #16 Building Community

* A community is only as strong as the contributions and involvement of its members
* Our society today, with its quest for individuality, its affluence undermining interdependence, and its technology obliterating face to face interactions must be overcome. Humans need in person communication.
* If you want a community you have to be willing to help create it, not just come when you feel like it.
* You need an attitude of "where can I pitch in" so that others who join feel wanted and nurtured.
* No one stays in a group where their needs aren't met. And conversely, yours won't get met either if you don't help the whole.
* You want people to confide in, get you through boughts of doubt and physical struggle or financial insecurities.
* It's paramount to realize that everyone wants something in this GIVE and take world.
* So, step up and make the group a community in order for YOU to thrive!
