HIKE OWAHEE TRAIL, & SWA TRAILS INCLUDING ROOKERY TRAIL APPROX. 10-12 MILES

This hike is for Intermediate to Advanced hikers only. The Bird Rookery is open for a limited amount of time until the birds start nesting again. There will be a lot of beautiful sites and wildlife to admire.

READ THE DIRECTIONS AT THE BOTTOM! THIS ISN'T EASY TO FIND WITHOUT THEM. YOUR GPS WILL NOT GET YOU THERE!!!!! THE HIKERS WHO TOOK 95 HAD A MUCH EASIER TIME GETTING HERE--THEY HAD NO PROBLEMS WHILE MANY WHO TOOK THE TURNPIKE HAD A HARD TIME.

We will hike approx. 10+ miles.

Our pace will be approx. 3 mph and we will stop for lunch break and a few quick water-sightseeing breaks.

We will meet at the SWA Palmetto Trailhead parking lot at 45th Street and Jog Road at 8:00AM and hike at 8:15 AM. Please be on time as we will not wait nor will we go back for anyone who arrives late.You must be able to do ENTIRE Hike. If this is your first time at this site please leave yourself extra time to find it.

You will need your normal hiking extras---at least 2 large bottles of water(can't hike without it),snacks,lunch,sunscreen,rain poncho, and insect repellent( in case you need it). Plan on 5+ hours for this hike.

DO NOT rely on your GPS or Google for directions because you might not get there!

Directions:

From I-95 take 45th Street exit west. Go about 3 miles (you will pass the SWA Admin. Bldg. parking lot). Stay in the left lane. After Haverhill Rd you will go over the turnpike and then 45th Street curves north and becomes Jog Rd. Not far past Haverhill Rd.approx. 1.5 miles on the left you will see a small blue sign PALMETTO TRAIL HEAD PARKING LOT and a landfill will be on the right. Make the U-turn and then right into the parking lot access rd. At stop sign make right into parking area.

From Turnpike: Take exit 107 Beeline HGWY. Go a short distance and make a Left on N. Jog RD. go 2.8 miles. Entrance will be on right. ( Small blue sign Palmetto Trail Head Parking Lot). At stop sign make another right into parking lot.
