What we’re about

This group is for anyone interested in hiking and other outdoor sports, and in meeting new people.

ACTIVITIES

In this group I'm trying to get together like-minded people who want to enjoy being outdoors, and discovering different parts of the country.

The main focus of activities is on one-day hikes in Hungary, in locations accessible by public transportation from Budapest. These may include more difficult hikes (20+ km with significant elevation gain and a fast pace - at a walking speed of at least 5km/h), but also easy shorter ones for beginners. Apart from hiking, I'd also like to do cycling or canoeing trips.

In case of shorter hikes, we may smuggle in a little culture, add some sightseeing or city trip. Altogether, I'll try to select trails to show local landmarks and the best of the region we visit. If the group becmes active enough, and there's interest, I'm also considering organizing longer trips to nearby countries.

RSVP'ing and NO-SHOWS

There is a limit on the number of participants for events (typically max. 10-20 people depending on the activity). This is partly because it's easier to enjoy nature in a smaller group, but also because of the limits of the organizers and of public transportation.

If you RSVP'd yes for a hike but cannot join please warn at least two day in advance. Persons who don't come or who RSVP'd yes, but change their mind at last minute will be put on the waiting list for the next activities. People who also join several activities and are on the main list of one will also be moved to the end of the waiting list. Weather is not an excuse for late cancellation or not showing up. Normally, activities are not cancelled because of bad weather, unless it's REALLY bad.

DISCLAIMER

This Meetup group is meant to allow experienced hikers to announce their willingness to do a given hike, find people to go along with and have a nice day. You are not supposed to be an expert, but to know your limits and choose to participate or not to an activity accordingly.
