What we’re about

This group is for those of us who have made the decision to become a Single Mom by Choice (SMC). A Single Mom by Choice is a single woman who decides to become a mother knowing that she will be the sole parent of her child.  The members of our group have decided to have a baby via sperm donation or adoption without a spouse or significant other.

This group was created for 2 reasons: (1) for SMCs to meet women who made the same decision as they did.  These women would have something immediately in common and would have a support system of women who truly "get" the situation in it's entirety (2) for the children of SMCs to meet and become friends with other children who have the same family story.

Anyone who is currently thinking about becoming a Single Mom by Choice (a thinker), in the process of becoming one (a tryer), or has successfully become a Single Mom by Choice (a SMC) is welcome to join. This is an extremely difficult but rewarding decision and it helps to have a network of women who relate to our situation and support one another through trying times.

We often get questions about choosing to become divorced or choosing to raise a child knowing the father won't be involved.  Although there are many similarities in the potential struggles and issues related to single parenting, these situations are different than Single Mom by Choice.  The needs of women in these situations can be better met by searching "single moms" or "single parents" on meetup.  For example, we often have discussions about our kids asking "why don't I have a father?" or "who is my father?"  We discuss how to explain sperm donation or adoption to our kids. In addition, nobody in our group has any issues involving child support, custody issues, or a 2nd person who might have parental rights.

If you read this description and feel that this group fits your family story, please request to join.  If your family does not fit this description, we suggest searching for "single moms" or "single parents on meet up as there are several other meetup groups that probably better match what you're looking for.
