What we’re about

Good people reading good (and sometimes bad) books. I was surprised by the lack of book clubs in Fort Worth, so I decided to start one. We read a wide variety books including fiction, non-fiction, thriller, memoirs, and sci-fi.

We meet at 6pm on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month. The first meet-up of the month is dedicated to a short story discussion and the second meet-up is our book discussion.  We may have a list of discussion questions for each meet-up which we may or may not use.  Our conversations are very organic and are always thought provoking.  This group is for open-minded people that are interested in having honest, candid, and challenging conversations.

How we pick short stories

Short stories are suggested by group members, or an organizer, and must be accessible for free online. Non-fiction is acceptable, too. The suggested length is a piece that can be read in 30 minutes or less.

How we pick books

Books are suggested by members and are put on a list. We then use this list to get consensus for our next read. We try to rotate through different topics and genres, and books are removed from the list if not chosen after three months. It's preferable a book be out for six months to a year so that used copies or soft copies are available or can readily be checked out at a library.

 Membership and Attendance

Anyone can join, and we consider an active member anyone who has visited Meetup.com within a year. Members will be removed if they have been inactive longer than that, but are welcome to rejoin. In April and October, we take a collection towards Meetup.com dues ($90/six months).

Starting in 2017, we will be taking attendance in order to address no shows. Please be courteous to other members by updating your RSVP, especially if we have a full meetup.
