What we’re about
Halifax River Audubon serves the northeast section of Volusia County. As a chapter of Audubon, we conduct meetings, events and classes throughout the year focusing on birds and the environment.
Our most popular activities are our field trips. We may go to a local park or travel to a nearby refuge and sometimes roam a little further. We may walk or hop on a boat or drive refuge roads. All outings are different and we offer trips at varying activity levels. We welcome bird watchers and nature lovers of all skill levels.
On the field trips we will comply with Covid-19 protocols. We will focus on small groups meeting at the venue and will walk or drive keeping in mind social distancing.
We welcome nature lovers of all ages, families, students, folks who want to explore Central Florida and our neighborhoods. We are looking for folks who enjoy spending time outdoors and learning and sharing the world of birds. For more information, please check our web site:

It’s winter in Florida. Everywhere you look there are birds. Sandpipers on the beach, herons along the river, mockingbirds in the yard. Have you ever noticed a bird that has taken you by surprise? Have you ever wondered what that bird is? If you have, then you are a bird watcher.
You might have taken the next step and picked up a bird guide book or went to the internet for some help. You quickly realized there are 800 avian species that are regularly recorded each year in North America and probably wondered - how do I make sense of this? It’s impossible! Yet people do it every day.
We are offering to help.
Join us Saturday, November 30, 2024 at Tomoka State Park for a 2 hour session exploring the sport/science/pass time of birding. This workshop will include both classroom and outdoor opportunities to hone your skills. You will be introduced to tools that will help you to whittle down the possibilities and that will get you to the right id: “I know what that is!” The class is recommended for adults and older children accompanied by an adult.Topics Covered
