Aikido may be for you!
Aikido is a Japanese martial art developed in the 20th century by legendary master Morihei Ueshiba. The name translates to English as "the way of harmonising with Ki".
"Ki" is a difficult word to translate to English which some say could be loosely defined as a mystical "universal energy" or "life force" while others see it as a perfect combination of focus, intention and timing.
A brand new Aikido class has started at Palace Of Art, 1121 Paisley Rd W, Bellahouston, Glasgow G52 1EQ.
Why Learn Aikido?
Aikido is a martial art that emphasises the concept of blending with or using the attackers energy against them.
Some also suggest that AIkido is about learning to defend yourself while not harming the attacker. In reality, this may be hard to achieve but is an intention behind the practise.
Aikido consists or controlling, pinning and throwing techniques as well as techniques for defence against weapons such as the sword and staff. Training does not require a high degree of fitness or flexibility and no previous experience is required.
The syllabus also includes the teaching of the principles of "Ki": a Japanese term that translates roughly to "universal energy" or "life force". On the Aikido mat this can translate to being completely relaxed and moving with the focus and power of the mind to create flowing and dynamic techniques.
