This is one of our go-to hikes when we are looking for a trail relatively close, fairly quick and not too hard, but yet still a good workout. The hike starts at the top of Amicalola Falls and our goal is to reach the Hike Inn in two hours. With a 30 minute break and two hours back, total hike time is about 4.5 hours, but the posted time is conservative at five hours. We do it as a loop, rather than an out-and- back.
The trail is within a State Park and is less than an hour from Cumming with easy access and no gravel roads involved. The Hike Inn has homemade snacks are available for a donation if you don't want to bring food. You can also refill your water here, so you need to carry only half as much as you normally would.
Once we are back, there is an option to view the highest waterfall in Georgia.
