What we’re about
The Patapsco Hikers has moderate hikes most Thursdays centered in Howard, Baltimore, and Carroll counties. Most hikes are 7-10 miles in length and involve 500 – 1500 feet of climb at a pace of 2.5 – 3 mph. We also have occasional, easier (five miles or so, less than 800 feet of climb) hikes on Mondays.
Upcoming hikes are posted on the internet on Sunday or Monday for the following Thursday, weather permitting. We typically start at 9:30 sharp and end around 1 PM or so with an optional lunch at a modest nearby venue or trailside.
Note that the hike description gives the estimated length and cumulative climb of the hike along with some descriptive elements (rocky, rooty, muddy, etc). Please judge carefully if this hike will be a pleasant experience for you (we want to come back) or an unpleasant struggle that will kill your enthusiasm for hiking.
Hikes are limited to 10 attendees. “Yes” RSVP’s are required for each hike. We ask you to donate $1 per hike to pay Meetup fees but no one will be turned away if they choose not to donate.
Well-mannered dogs are permitted but only with prior approval from the group organizer.
Please note that I do not answer my phone unless I know who's calling. You can send me a message through the Meetup website.
WARNING Patapsco Hikers (PH) takes a common-sense approach to hiking/walking. We encourage participants use their best judgement and err on the side of caution when participating with the group. This is an outdoor activity and mishaps do occur.
By registering for any hike, you agree to the following waiver of liability:

Yes you get a holiday t-shirt, yes you play two football games, yes it is even tax deductible, but it is a lot more. Everyone is encouraged to bring either some holiday spirits, and/or some food and we make a huge holiday tailgate out of the event. We will be grilling food, drinking, and socializing as we play our two games. All games will be between 10 and 4 at Patterson High School, and the cost is a tax deductible $40. I am helping put together THREE teams so you can either text me 410-215-8289 and I will help get you on a team, or you can click this link and register [BSSC](Santa Claus Anonymous is a unique volunteer non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization that was founded in 1934 by Theodore R. McKeldin (Baltimore mayor in 1943 and 1963). Each year, keenly aware of the thousands of children in the Baltimore metropolitan area who go without presents at holiday time, we raise money to give every child a Christmas. And there are many children to help. In 1934, we raised $800 for Christmas distribution. This year, our goal is close to $300,000. The way that we will reach that goal is with dedication, cooperation, and a belief in the spirit of Christmas. We partner with the Department of Social Services or its equivalent in Baltimore City and seven neighboring counties Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Cecil, Harford, Howard and Fredrick to accurately identify eligible recipients and distribute gift certificates for them. The BSSC and Santa would like everyone to remember that this is a 100 % NON-contact co-ed football event to help children have a Merry Christmas. Unsportsmanlike conduct will NOT be tolerated, and players will be asked to leave the event, if this type of conduct occurs. Santa told me that he will personally put you on the Naughty List indefinitely, if you get tossed!)
