Exercise Guide: Hewen's Creek Park
Details
This is NOT an in-person, group event.
This is one of our set of Exercise Guides, trying to help and encourage you to get out to enjoy nature while Sierra Club Outings are suspended.
Please follow all local health guidelines and park-specific instructions.
Hewen's Creek is a nice bit of nature on the south side of Ypsilanti Township. The trails are clear, dry, and decently marked. The is a stand of Quaking Aspen on the east side and lots of large, mature trees scattered throughout, including a Cottonwood approx 60" in diameter and a 44" white oak. We saw some Northern shovelers amongst the mallards on the pond and a glimpse of a whitetail deer.
It is easy to put together 4-5 miles of trails. The Green Path is wide and flat throughout; the other trails are a bit narrower. There are no significant hills in the park.
The map posted at the Bemis Rd. trailhead is excellent - take a picture of it (it is the first picture below). It is repeated on most of the trail posts. The Green Path doesn't have trail markers except when it intersects the Yellow or Red trails, but it is a wide, mowed path, kind of hard to miss.
NOTE: the Green Path is largely missing from essentially all online maps! The map at the trailhead accurately shows it, as does our map, 2nd picture below.
