Who we are
Oaklands Toastmasters in Halswell, Christchurch, has been running for over 20 years, serving the people of Halswell, Oaklands, Westlake, Aidenfield, and Hillmorton in Christchurch, as well as anyone from the surrounding area who want to join in the fun.
Our Mission
The mission of Oakland Toastmasters is to provide a mutually supportive and positive learning environment. It is a place where every member has the opportunity to develop communication and leadership skills, which in turn foster self-confidence and personal growth.
Basically we help people gain confidence, communication and teamwork skills in a friendly, fun way.
Our members come from a wild variety of backgrounds: engineers, teachers, salespeople, students and business owners, to name a few.
New members learn the Timekeeper role supervised by the VP Education Shen Mansell.
People join for a variety of different reasons, some are after career advancement, others would like to perfect the art of delivering a highly inspiring special occasions speech and some of our members join just for fun.
Whatever your reason, with our members combined with a vast array of experience, we can help you achieve your goals.
Learn how to:
Prepare and present speeches and presentations.
Organize a speech into a logical sequence.
Begin and summarize speeches effectively.
Give useful and effective feedback, in a way that will help people learn and improve.
Speak off the cuff, responding well when put on the spot.
When delivering your speech, you'll learn to:
Use body language and gestures to add impact.
Use your voice to enhance your message.
Get control of your nerves.
In addition, you'll get to:
Get to know your audience.
Introduce other speakers.
Evaluate speakers with effective feedback.
Perform a variety of roles in the meetings, from the timekeeper, to toastmaster.

We meet every Monday night (except public holidays) at 7:15 pm at the Halswell Bowling Club, 301 Halswell Road.

It would be wonderful to have you join us as a member.
There is a $90 joining fee for new members and a $20.00 monthly fee to cover the costs to toastmasters international, and room hire.
