A11y North #4 | Exploring Low Vision & Voice Guidance
Details
We are proud to announce A11y North #4, hosted by our friends at BJSS.
Free pizza, free drinks, networking and 2 amazing talks by 2 great people.
Come along and meet likeminded accessibility professionals and advocates, just a stones throw away from Leeds train station.
Talk 1: Screen magnification and browser zoom
Andy joins us from Evoluted in Sheffield, where he is a Technical Team Lead. He is also a passionate advocate for digital accessibility.
Andy has spoken at numerous events across the north of England.
Outside of work, Andy runs Street Art Sheffield, documenting the Steel City’s murals and running the occasional street art tour.
His talk is about screen magnification and browser zoom, which are commonly used assistive technologies that often get forgotten in the design and build of websites, which introduces challenges to people with low vision that rely on them for browsing the Web.
In this talk, he will share my personal experiences of these assistive technologies and some of the issues he regularly encounters.
Talk 2: Designing Sky Voice Guidance
A11y North's own Clare Davidson is joining us on stage in her capacity as the Head of Product Inclusion and Equity at Sky.
Clare will talk us through what Sky's Voice Guidance is, who it benefits, the design process and how we moved from closing regulatory gaps to changing culture.
