What we’re about

Who we are:
The Aberdeen Science Fiction Book Club meets on the second Thursday of every month in central Aberdeen. We want to be an inclusive group and we welcome everyone, from all ages, genders, demographics, and identies who want to share their interest in Science-Fiction no matter how much or little they know of it.

What we do:
Every month we will read the book from the reading list, set in advance by your un-democratically chosen Leaders, then meet up online to give everybody their moment to say what they felt about what we just read - what you liked, what you didn't like, or just what made you laugh or cry. We also have sporadic cinema nights on those blessed occasions that an SF movie receives a general cinema release, and as we have moved from pub based meetups to online we also try for a few social meetups over a meal and a drink to remind us all we are real people and not replaced by AI avatars!

What we read:
I have long since ditched our "We try to avoid the classics" because our members have a varying history with the genre, some very new, some read all their live so I declare the Golden age fair game again! We read everything from Alternative Histories, Dystopian Futures to Hard Science Fiction and Space Opera, even a bit of Science-Fantasty now and then.
We are always open to suggestion, so please just message one of the organisers and we'll add your suggestions to the growing list!

Membership and attendance:
It is free to join the Aberdeen Science Fiction Book Club and attend social events, but I do ask a very small sum of £1.00 per meeting to help cover the costs incurred from running the book club on Meetup.
