"Ten Thousand Light-Years From Home" by James Tiptree Jr

I came across this collection of short stories when embarking on the impossible task of trying to find an author that hits the high standard of Ted Chiang, and found many recommendations of Tiptree giving that same human feeling to the tales, even though she often writes about beings that are very much not human and I thought aha, I've found the last book for the year!

This sounds like a very eclectic mix of stories, from an aulder era of science fiction so I'm sure it will provoke the usual lively chatter.
