Bi-monthly Open Mic Music, Hang out/Practice, Network and Socialize

Details

I will be hosting this ongoing event at my home on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month beginning in September. From 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

I always envisioned doing something like this. A safe place to talk and practice music, perform, learn, and network; build community.

I have a mailing list and am offering this event on multiple social media sites so if you see two people here that are going, you will see many others from other groups. We had about 12 people last time. Trying to grow it by a few people every time we meet.

Because of the logistics involved this will be an ongoing paid event. A $10.00 donation is your Yes, RSVP. This entitles you to have free drinks munchies. If your donation is less or you have not donated, we ask that you please donate to the cause if you consume any drinks or snacks.

We decided to serve wine starting with the event on the 22nd.

I will more than likely be tweaking things as we move forward. For now, the plan is to have coffee and snacks. Coffee and creamer, snacks will be available for purchase by an honor system. An area will be set up with different snacks and paper plates, napkins, ect. Members can purchase items by simply dropping some money in the cash box provided. To build community there needs to be trust, so let's see how this goes.

Members can go to the patio, to practice. The main focus is on performing, which will be done inside. Outside is for warming up. This isn't Madison Square Garden. It's going to be very low key and fun. An opportunity to practice playing in front of people with no judgement. Think of it like a comic trying new material in front of an audience.

For right now, it is just going to be acoustic guitars, singing and piano. I turned my living room into a quasi-music room. If you want to amplify your guitar, or sing, equipment will be available for you to do that. If you need special equipment, contact me in advance.

When people arrive a clip board will be available where performers can write down their name in the order they are comfortable performing. Not everybody wants to go first. ( : If you have a couple of songs that you want to perform, simply write your name in a space where it isn't back to back. We will start the performing part of the event at about 6:30.

There will be chairs in the living room where people can watch and listen to members perform. Although members are encouraged to perform something, if nobody wants to, then use your time to practice, talk to other people, network, socialize, create community.

There are only going to be a couple of rules. Unless you need your phone, for lyrics, tune your guitar, metronome; something musical, keep it in your pocket or purse. The point of this ongoing event is to interact, converse, get to know people. If you are just sitting around and scrolling on your phone, you'll be asked to put it away. The second time you will be asked to leave. Seriously, this phone stuff is out of control and making people socially retarded. Nobody talks anymore. Nobody interacts. The whole point of doing this is to interact and socialize. Make new friends. If you are one of those people who just can't live without your phone, you should probably just....I don't know....stay home and scroll.

No alcohol, no smoking, no drugs. No exceptions. Anyone not adhering to this rule will be asked to leave and permanently banned from our group.

This isn't a gentleman's club. I want the women in our group to feel safe. Being friendly is cool. Trying to chat up a member is not cool. Any behavior that is sleazy, inappropriate, rude, not in line with creating a safe environment for everyone, will result in expulsion from group.

Whether you are male or female. Don't be a dick. This is a NO DICK zone. Instead. Be kind. Treat performers with respect. Be interested in others. Share your name. Network. Talk music. Play together in the patio. Play a duet. Everything you do; simply be kind.

To RSVP Yes. Use Venmo, PayPal or Zelle. No donations accepted at door.
