I decided to revamp the group a bit. It seems that most of our members are mainly interested in playing rather than learning guitar theory and playing. Because of the time involved in putting together curriculum, and lack of attendance, I decided to just do a couple of ongoing events that will be starting in September.

There is a beautiful park in Anaheim called George Washington Park. It's small, super shady, and has a gazebo. I am in the process of booking the gazebo for the time I have scheduled this group. First and third Sunday of each month from 4:00 to 6:00. However, even if we are not given the go-ahead on a consistent basis, there are many places to play.

The way this will be organized is as follows. Rather than playing a bunch of songs that we can only partially play, or don't play very well, we will concentrate on learning one song, breaking it down piece by piece, practicing it in sections, practice it in whole until we get it right. We will be using both a drum machine and a portable CD player where we play along with the song; when we get the song down of course.

Timing is super important in music. I personally feel we do ourselves a disservice, when we play and do not pay attention to how we sound with other people. How we mesh. So this aspect of playing is going to be stressed.

I am only going to pick the first song to learn. Want to thank Lorraine, one of our members, for turning me on to a great song by Bread that I have heard multiple times over the years, but never thought to play. It's a great song called The Guitar Man. It's not a three-cord song. It's challenging, but based on what I have seen, we are up to it. We have to push ourselves if we want to improve.

After we get that song down, someone else will volunteer a song that they will teach to the group the same way. I will assist, but the person sharing the song will be responsible for making copies of the song for everyone and breaking down the song in parts so everyone can learn.

We may only learn a song or two a month, but we will be able to perform them so they sound polished. Quality before quantity.

I am going to keep the group at around 15 people. If you arrive late, you arrive late, but note that we won't be catching you up. That will be on you. So plan accordingly.

Hope to see more of the group getting involved. We have almost 90 people, but we have a core group of about five or six that attend almost everything being offered. Get involved. This is your group.
