The Hike:
Nestled in Hertfordshire, Broxbourne Woods stand as a unique natural treasure. It proudly holds the title of Hertfordshire's sole National Nature Reserve, boasting extensive sessile oak and hornbeam woodlands that reach their northern limits.

Our journey guides us through four distinctive woodlands, each with its own character. Bencroft Wood and Broxbourne Wood, Hoddesdonpark Wood and Wormley Wood. During autumn these woodlands transform into a canvas of rich colors as leaves change, creating a breathtaking display of autumn foliage. The ongoing practice of coppicing and thinning ensures varying light conditions, enhancing the splendor of the woodlands during this season. Keep an eye out for the elusive woodcock that has recently returned to this area.

Meeting Point:
Bayford Station Car Park (Pay & Display) Brickendon Ln, Bayford, Hertford SG13 8PH

What to wear and bring:
Dress appropriately for the weather as our walks go ahead in rain or shine, It's recommended to carry a waterproof jacket at all times.
Check the forecast and bring sun cream, a hat, etc. for warm days, or waterproofs, hat and gloves for wet / cold days. Since we'll be walking through woodland with nettles and a potential for tick bites, consider wearing trousers or leggings. Avoid denim or cotton.
Opt for walking shoes or boots; open-toe shoes won't be suitable.
As there might not be opportunities to purchase food or drinks along the route, bring at least 1.5 litres of water, lunch, and snacks. Keep in mind that there won't be public toilets available on the route.
