I have relocated from Georgia/ South Carolina area and am an organizer for a group there. I am hoping to build a group in Alabama with activities in Tuscaloosa, Birmingham and Prattville (within driving range of Demopolis).
I know it’s difficult trying to make new friends as an adult. Especially if you have had a change of life such as divorce, death of a significant other, or maybe you’re experiencing an empty nest and don’t know how to fill the time with new friendships and activities.
I want to schedule game nights, outdoor activities, festivals, dining out etc.
As the membership grows, the members that are interested in hosting events/ becoming an organizer just need to message me to discuss adding them as an organizer.
If there are events that you are interested in the communities and you think they would make a good meetup event, please let me know.
To operate the meetup account is around $200 a year so that’s why I added the $5 annual membership dues to help cover the cost of having the group.
Note as 7/15/24:
Participation has been unfortunately nonexistent on this Meetup app for this group so far & for the events that I’ve scheduled. Folks will sign up & then don’t show. Or they join & get to 90 days to pay the $5 FOR THE YEAR & then they get out right before. I have paid over $200 for the group to exist on the app & amount goes up Jan. I don’t get paid to be an organizer. This is something I was doing in Augusta and when I moved I had hoped to bring here. It has been discouraging. I work full time but I was hoping in my spare time to bring something I loved with me back to Alabama. I noticed the last group in Tuscaloosa had ended and thought I could give what I had done in Georgia a try here. I’m hesitant to book a camping trip here because I’m afraid it will be just me in the woods. Or plan anything really big when no one shows up for the free or the smaller stuff.
I’ve had one lady to graciously agree to help be an organizer so far & no one has signed up for any of hers. If there are events you’d like to see posted or you would also like to be a volunteer organizer to help make some more events happen, please message me & I’ll attempt to make them happen or if I can’t I’ll ask to see if you’d like to host. Group can’t grow with constant no shows.
I cover half the state for work. Tuscaloosa was closest to me for events but if I need to start doing them in more in Birmingham, Prattville or other parts of the state, I can. The most people who have showed up to one event was when I scheduled and paid for that cluedupp ticket in Birmingham (that was 2).
I’m asking if you rsvp, please show up. I’m going to give the app until 1/25 & if participation doesn’t get any better I’m probably not going to renew the group. If I do that, I’ll post any events on my Facebook group by same name.
I would love to see this group grow and succeed but I need some help. Thanks for your time and hopefully I’ll get to meet you at an event.
