November Contra Dance - Live Music - Alameda

Details

Please join us for our Contra Dance Saturday evening in Alameda. No partner necessary. Contra dancing is fun & easy! If you can walk, you can contra dance. In addition to the lesson, each contra dance is taught and called. Our regular dancers are very welcoming to newcomers.

There is a newcomer’s session (lesson) at 6:30 pm, and contra dancing (plus 2 casual waltzes) from 7 pm until 10 pm. You can show up anytime, but if you want the lesson, please be here a little before 6:30. We no longer have a potluck dinner before the dance, but you may come as early as 6pm to eat your own food. Snack foods are welcome.

Dance is held at: The Harriet Hale Rix Cottage (aka Garden Cottage) at 1707 Alameda Ave. The Cottage is off the street, through an open gate, and sits behind The Home of Truth Spiritual Center (which is on the corner and has its front entrance at 1300 Grand Street).

Sliding scale suggested: $15-$30. We start at $15 to accommodate those with less and no one is turned away for lack of funds. This is a not-for-profit event. All money goes to pay musicians, callers, and rent the hall, and that is why those who love this dance and are financially comfortable may choose to chip in higher to support the dance. Payment is cash or check at the door (cash preferred).

Ours is an inclusive dance that is open to all who want to dance, whether vaccinated or not, and masking is optional.
We do, however, ask that you take an Antigen Covid test before the dance (same day), make sure it is negative, and not attend if you test positive, have any illness symptoms, or have close contact or live with someone who is ill or tests positive. The hall is well ventilated.

Other notes:
This is a scent-free event.
In order to protect those with chemical sensitivities, please refrain from using scented products on your body, clothes, and belongings. (Deodorant is ok. Shampoos are ok if your hair is dry. Perfumes, colognes and essential oils should not be applied - and if you use them daily, you may consider that this isn't a good fit.)
