What we’re about
Join up with neighbours and friends in the Almonte Ontario community to paddle (kayaks, canoes, SUPs, all skill levels welcome) and enjoy other outdoor activities (hiking, camping, snowshoeing, skiing, skating, and more) year-round. Our focus during paddling season are paddling events but off-season, we offer other opportunities to get outside.
The Mississippi River (Ontario, Canada) is at the back door of the Almonte Riverfront community. Our summer evening paddling sessions usually begin at the community dock at 300 Spring Street in Almonte. Check the event details for starting location as some weeks it may change. Other paddling events are held at other locations such as Algonquin Provincial Park, Driftwood Provincial Park, Frontenac Park, etc. Check the event details for location.
If, like us, you want to paddle or get outdoors more but without scheduling it or having a commitment, it just doesn’t happen. This Meetup group is a great way to overcome that inertia! Let’s make every summer a wonderful one for paddling as well as for other outdoor adventures year-round - fun, exercise, sunshine in the great Canadian outdoors on our doorstep.
A few years ago, we expanded our group's adventures to include half-day or full-day trips in the area or further afield. Members have hosted events at their favourite outdoor spots. All members are encouraged to host an event. We have had paddling or hiking events in Algonquin Park (Barron Canyon), on the lower Madawaska River near Burnstown, in the Calabogie area, along the Dumoine River in Quebec, and other locations. Attendance is free for Meetup group members and their guests. However, the Event Host may ask for a modest contribution to cover out-of-pocket costs. Hosting opportunities are endless. If you want to do something and want some company, post an event.
MEMBERSHIP
To apply for membership, please answer the five questions. Honest answers help us to get to know you and ensure our group is a good fit for you. Also be sure to include a recent photo of yourself in your Meetup profile so we know who we are paddling (or hiking or adventuring) with.
If you no longer wish to be a member of this group, you may unsubscribe at any time.
UNIQUE MEETUP NAMES ARE IMPORTANT
We understand that you want to maintain privacy and not reveal too much detail in a public forum. However, if your Meetup name is only your first name and if there are others with the same first name, we may end up crediting the wrong group member. To avoid this, please add an initial in place of your last name in your Meetup profile and type your Meetup name in the Message/Memo section of your e-transfer.
