Burnside Lake is a small lake situated at an elevation of 8100'. It's located about 6 miles from Pickett's Junction. Picket's Junction is the intersection of Hwy 88 and Hwy89. At the 4-way stop take Burnside Rd. and follow it until you reach Burnside Lake. The road can be rough but I have easily made it there in my CRV. I will physically check and report the on road condition prior to the outing.
The lake is best fished from a personal watercraft such as a float tube, kayak, or canoe.
A 4wt. fly rod is perfect for this lake but any size rod will work. If you will be dry fly or indicator fishing a floating line works well. If you will be stripping an intermediate or 10' sink tip would be good. But you could also use a floating line with a versa tip or split shots.
Flies to bring should include Brown, Black and Olive Woolly Buggers and Olive and Black Leeches. There are scuds in the lake so bring Scud Pattern and fish them around the weeds. Of course bring the old reliable's such as Pheasant Tails, Hares Ears, Copper Johns, Damsel Fly Nymphs, ect.
Dry flies should include Parachute Adams, Mayflies, Elk Hair Caddis, Stimulator, Grass Hopper, Ant, ect.
Take into consideration that there is no drinking water or toilet facilities at the lake when you pack for the outing. Pack plenty of water and a good lunch.
I look forward to seeing and and fishing with you at Burnside Lake.
Don't hesitate to contact me via Meetup with any questions or concerns.
