You do not need to be a AMC member.Join AMC Boston Ski & Ride for a day of downhill skiing and snowboard riding at Wildcat Mountain on Saturday 12/14. Wildcat resort has 225 acres of skiable terrain and offers beautiful views of Mount Washington and the presidential range. Participants will be responsible for directly purchasing their tickets from the mountain. After registering, one of the leaders will contact you with additional questions and information to confirm. Leaders will organize meet up time in the morning for skiing and riding if you so choose to join. We will organize another chance to meet up with skiers and riders for lunch at the base lodge.
Please note that it is encouraged to have some downhill skiing or snowboarding experience for this trip, and lift tickets, ski equipment, and meals will be the individual participant's responsibility. That said, no prior experience or equipment is required as the mountain offers on-site rentals, and lessons are also available through Wildcat.Cost* Adult: $135 (advanced purchase online, refundable)/ $61 on EPIC 1 Day pass option: 22 resorts, non-peak date). The cost for a lift ticket online on Wildcat is currently $135 for 12/14 with advanced purchase and is refundable. Wildcat is on the EPIC pass. EPIC passes go off sale on Dec 2nd!

Winter is Coming!
Time to dig out your gear, dust off the cobwebs, and work your legs and cardio for the season ahead. The plan is to skin up and ski down multiple laps at Ragged Mtn ski area in Darby, NH. This mountain has 1,000' elevation and some fun glades if there is natural snow. A $10 uphill pass is required.
We will meet at the picnic tables outside the main lodge at 9:30. This trip is an informal show & go, however please register if you plan to come. I will then contact you if the venue changes due to conditions or to arrange car pooling. This is a great way to meet other uphill skiers at the start of the ski season. We will likely split into fast and slow groups and you can skip a lap or quit early.
Requirements are:
1- You will need Alpine Touring (AT) or Telemark gear plus skins (rentals not avail nearby).
2- You should be capable of skinning up and skiing down at least 2,000 vertical feet (2 laps). {You may do only one lap - nobody is counting}.

Participants should be proficient downhill skiers, capable of comfortably navigating intermediate downhill slopes. The event is open to those using alpine touring or telemark gear. Instructors will teach basics on attaching skins, efficient climbing techniques, transitioning, and heat management.
Participants should be capable of climbing 2,000 - 3,000 vertical feet. We will have fast and slow groups so you can climb at a comfortable pace. Registration is required. Participants will purchase their uphill day passes directly from Cranmore Mountain.
Adult: $20 member / $20 non-member

A joint AMC Boston and SEM chapter trip XC skiing from lodge to lodge with stays at AMC Medawisla and West Branch Pond Camp. Experience the beauty and joy of the Maine North Woods in winter. X-country skiers with intermediate skills will find this trip enjoyable.
Feb 7-10 2025 Itinerary - 3 nights lodge to lodge, 4 Days
We will meet Friday afternoon at West Branch Pond, car spot and drive to AMC Medawisla.
We will spend 2 nights, Friday and Saturday, at AMC Medawisla Camp in a bunkhouse, or comfortable cabins. Cabins sleep several people and participants are expected to share a cabin with others as necessary.
Saturday the group will explore the variety of advanced beginner to intermediate trails available around Medawisla: including either nearby Shaw Mountain, Trout Mountain and a loop trail around 2nd Roach Pond if conditions allow. Advanced skiers might enjoy skiing the Skyline Trail on Shaw Mountain. Snow shoeing is also an option.
On Sunday the group will ski 9 miles with elevation gain ~ 600 feet to reach West Branch Pond Camp. A gear shuttle will bring your bag from lodge to lodge. All lodging in Cabins, and the cabins sleep several people and participants are expected to share a cabin with others as necessary.
At West Branch Pond there is a variety of advanced beginner and advanced intermediate ski trails, some on the flanks of White Cap Mountain and others that follow the West Branch of the Pleasant River. Several snowshoe trails are also available. Easier skiing on the loop around West Branch Pond.
Monday in the early afternoon the group will car spot back to Medawisla.
Meals and Lodging
Medawisla and West Branch Pond are the only camps in the Maine Wilderness area that you can drive to directly and have parking next to the camp.
2 Nights at AMC Medawisla includes linen and meals. Friday night dinner to Sunday breakfast.
1 Night at West Branch Pond Camp, privately owned (not AMC) and has been in the Sterling family for over 100 years. Dinner and Breakfast with pack lunch provided. Bring your own sleeping bag and towels.Shared Bathroom with shower at both locations.
Cost is per person and covers 3 nights lodging AMC Medawisla Camp and West Branch Camp and meals inc 3 dinners, 3 breakfasts, and 3 lunches through to check out Monday.

What to Expect
Difficulty Rating: This trip is rated moderate to vigorous. This ski trip is targeted at intermediate XC skiers. This means skiers who can:
*use classic-style, narrow skis with or without metal edges. IF conditions icy skiers may need skis with metal edge. You can rent locally in Greenville, ME.
*ski 15-20 kilometers per day for 3 days in a row at a moderate pace ranging between 3.5-5
kilometers/hour [2-3 miles per hour] depending on terrain
*Climb and descend hilly terrain at moderate pace with good controlParticipant Expectations:

Join us for a day of backcountry skiing on Mount Washington's below treeline trails originally cut by the Civil Conservation Corps (CCC) during the 1930s.
This trip is particularly geared towards skiers / snowboarders who are familiar with uphill travel but perhaps have limited or no backcountry experience. Skiers must have familiarity with their gear and be comfortable skiing / riding black diamond-level terrain under variable conditions.
Registration is REQUIRED and must occur through the Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) website though registrants are not required to be members of the AMC. Further details and registration link:
