Sleeping Giant Master Hike #6, Hamden, STRENUOUS
Details
Sleeping Giant State Park in Hamden, CT: A 6+ mile loop with 1500 feet of elevation covering the Blue and Yellow Trails. This hike WILL go over the head, a steep and exposed route. We will meet at the Mt. Carmel Avenue main entrance of Sleeping Giant at 9:15 AM and start the hike promptly at 9:30 AM. (Be ready to start hiking at 9:30, incorporate extra time BEFORE for restroom stop). Steady rain or snow cancels. There is potential for icy conditions - please bring microspikes. Please note that this is the most challenging set of trails at Sleeping Giant. It is over mostly rocky uneven terrain with some scrambling parts (both up & down). It goes over the head of the Giant early in the hike. Sturdy hiking shoes with good grippy soles are a must. We plan to hike at a rigorous pace for the terrain and these trails are challenging. Bring water and snacks/lunch. No dogs.
You can access trail maps at this link (both pdf and GPS-enabled maps) Please note that this hike will be rescheduled if there is a high probability of rainy or snowy weather. A notification will be sent to hikers who registered on meet-up and this event will be edited on the CT chapter AMC website. Note: This is hike #6 in the Giant Master hike challenge. You don't have to be participating in the challenge to attend this hike. If you are interested in the challenge - check out this link.
If you are doing the challenge, here is the information for your Giant Master Log: Today's hike completes all the sections of the Yellow Trail. And sections II, III, IV, V, VI of the Blue Trail.
