Blue Hills Views and Trillium Brews Hike

Details

What could be better than a great fall hike in the Blue Hills Reservation? A great fall hike in the Blue Hills followed by a brew at Trillium Brewery of course!
Please Join us for our first “Views and Brews” hike that will take place in the Blue Hills Reservation followed by an optional trip to Trillium Brewery afterwards. This scenic hike on the Skyline Trail offers a rewarding ascent to the top of Great Blue Hill, the highest point in the Blue Hills Reservation. This trail is a wonderful choice for those looking for a short, but invigorating hike with impressive views close to Boston. Whether you are a seasoned hiker or just starting out, this peaceful hike promises a rewarding experience with spectacular views and plenty of fresh air. Sturdy hiking shoes or boots, water, snacks, weather-appropriate clothing, winter gear, and trekking poles, will make your hiking experience safer.
This hike will be a loop trail that is approximately 3 miles round trip with about 800 feet of elevation gain. The pace for this hike will be slow to moderate moving at about 1-2 miles per hour.
We will start our adventure at Houghton’s Pond, from there we will access the trailhead which provides a gentle beginning with forested paths. As we ascend Hancock Hill, we will follow the winding footpath towards the Eliot Observation Tower at the top of Great Blue Hill.
Following the blue blazes of the Skyline Trail, we will quickly gain elevation as we climb a series of rocky, rugged sections that make for a moderately challenging workout. The trail is well-marked, but some steep rocky areas require careful footing. As we reach the summit of Great Blue Hill, we will enjoy sweeping views of the distant Boston skyline and the surrounding forested hills. For the descent, we will continue along the Skyline trail, where the trail curves downhill. This downhill part of the trail will reconnect us to the initial trailhead near Houghton’s Pond, where we can relax and enjoy the pond's peaceful setting after the hike.
Following the hike there will be an optional trip to Trillium Brewery in Canton, Massachusetts. This Trillium Brewery location offers a taproom, restaurant, and outdoor patio. The taproom offers full-service dining with signature menu items featuring wood-fired pizza and barbecue. The beverage menu contains an extensive list of beers, spirits, and non-alcoholic drinks to choose from.
This hike is open to everyone. You do not have to be a member of AMC to participate. On-line registration is requested for this hike using the link below.
