World Usability Day 2024: Designing for a Better World
Details
World Usability Day is a single day of events occurring around the world that brings together communities of professional, industrial, educational, citizen, and government groups for our common objective: to ensure that the services and products important to life are easier to access and simpler to use.
2024 Theme: Designing for a Better World
This theme is demonstrated in many ways such as architects and urban planners creating accessible public spaces, companies focusing on eco-friendly packaging, software developers prioritizing inclusive digital design, community engagement platforms enhancing civic participation, sustainable transportation solutions prioritizing pedestrians and cyclists, educational materials designed for inclusivity, and green architecture emphasizing energy efficiency and occupant well-being. These efforts contribute to a more accessible and environmentally conscious world.
We've invited 3 awesome short-form talks that fit into this year’s theme and delivered by:
- Accessibility at scale by Mrunal Kapadia, Staff Product Designer, and Veerabahu Sankarabaham, Senior Product Designer at ServiceNow
In this talk, we will understand the importance of designing with inclusive technology. Learn how ServiceNow is embedding accessibility features to enhance user experience and meet compliance standards. Discover how accessibility drives inclusivity, increases audience reach, and enhances brand loyalty. - Evolving data visualization in enterprise SAAS for an accessible world by Bettina Kast, Principal UX Product Designer
Bettina shares her experience enhancing data visualization accessibility for vision-impaired users in enterprise software. From collaborating with blind colleagues to crafting screen-reader-friendly data visualization, learn valuable takeaways on overcoming challenges in inclusive, vision-accessible design. - Designing for a Better World: Rethinking Responsibility and Impact in Design by Cecilia Scolaro, Responsible Design Educator and Consultant
Join us for a thought-provoking session with Cecilia Scolaro, a designer and advocate for responsible, decolonized design practices. Cecilia will explore the gaps between the idealized narratives of design and the complex realities of its impact on people and the planet. She will challenge us to reflect on how our daily choices as designers can better align with our values and life, encouraging a deeper connection with our work and a commitment to design that fosters justice and regeneration. Together, we’ll reimagine what it means to design for a better world—one decision at a time.
