What we’re about
Welcome to the Annapolis Body Image Group for Higher Weight People meetup! This group is for individuals who struggle with existing in the world in a larger body and need support around body image, self-esteem and navigating a world that stigmatizes our body sizes in many ways, including in the built environment, in healthcare, amongst friends and family, etc.
Whether you are looking for a safe space to discuss your challenges or seeking support and resources, this group is here for you. Let's come together to share our experiences, offer each other encouragement, and work towards healing and self-acceptance. Join us for meaningful discussions, occasional guest speakers and helpful insights from people who live in larger bodies and found peace.
A little about me, the group's facilitator: My name is Chevese Turner. I live in Severna Park and have lived in a larger body my entire life. I had eating disorders and yo-yo dieted my way into a body that each decade became larger despite every attempt to become thin. I was depressed and anxious with very little happiness or joy in my life.
Fortunately, with some help from a therapist, I was able to change how I saw my own body in a very different way. It change my life in so many ways.
I now am a larger body coach, educator, advocate and consultant. I work exclusively with larger bodied individuals who want to find the joy in life and understand why it has seemed so impossible.
I hope you will join our meet-up group and become a part of a community that I hope will become an important part of your support network. Since this is a brand new group as of 10/2024, we will decide when to set up a group meeting once we have 6-8 people who would like to participate.
The group is geared towards adults who are 18 and older. This is not an intentional weight loss group. If you are interested in contacting me directly, you can reach me at [email protected].
