Name: One-way 6.5-mile Hood Mountain hike (Santa Rosa) #BART

This is a continuation of our **#BART** series in Sonoma County. We pick things up at **Hood Mountain Regional Park**.

A vigorous uphill trip begins near Sugarloaf Ridge and goes up past **Gunsight Rock** to the top of **2730' Hood Mountain** for distant views. On the downhill, the route follows Hood Creek through forests and meadows and past several ponds. The 2017 Nuns Fire and 2020 Glass Fire burned much of the park.

We will likely not encounter many people in the park, particularly on the 1st half. Bring a portable lunch and we'll find a spot to eat. Expect to be out all day.

**Hike summary:** 6.5 miles with 2150' cumulative gain, 2350' cumulative loss. This starts high and ends low. Moderate pace.

**Meetup location:**

9:30AM at Starbucks, 1511 Farmers Ln Center, Santa Rosa. Food, water, coffee and restrooms available.

**One-way shuttle setup:**

We will drive to Hood Mountain Regional Park parking lot, 8006 Pythian Rd, Santa Rosa and leave cars at the endpoint. Then drive to the hike start at the west end of Sugarloaf Ridge SP. You will help with the one-way shuttle setup before the hike and/or help fetch cars after the hike as needed.

Meet at 7:30AM at House of Bagel's, Stephen's Plaza
5231 Stevens Creek Blvd, Santa Clara
Free parking. Each passenger pays $20 gas money to their driver.

Give additional $5 cash to your driver for bridge toll. "FasTrak" is used for the $8.40 bridge toll, otherwise you will receive a $8.80 bill in the mail.

Folks in the North Bay, East Bay and SF should carpool as well. Write a comment on this page and indicate your carpool location AND time.

**Details:**

Wear hiking boots or athletic shoes with good tread. Carry sufficient water (3L) & any clothing/gear that you may need. A hat & sunscreen are recommended. We'll eat lunch on the hike. Bring snacks to eat and share.

No cellphone coverage on much of the trail. GPX route is available. Restrooms near mile 5 and 6.
