Apalachee Canoe & Kayak Club (ACKC)

Mark your calendars because you won't want to miss the ACKC Annual Holiday Party! This year we're meeting in an enclosed building so we won't have to worry about rain cancelling our event. Join us on Sunday, December 8 at 1:00 pm at the Leon County Lake Jackson Community Center located at 3840 North Monroe Street in Tallahassee. It's on the north side of town in the Huntington Oaks Shopping Center at the intersection of North Monroe St. and Fred George Rd..

Bring a covered dish to share, whatever you would like to drink (non-alcoholic) and a "gift" for Santa's gift exchange. Look through your attic or your garage for that special "something" that is humorous, strange or absolutely bizarre. It cannot be alive or have ever been alive but other than that, there are no rules. Use your imagination. The funnier, the better. If your garage is impeccable, and you have nothing to offer, go to a thrift store but don't spend more than $5.00 on your perfect "gift". Put it in a plain brown grocery bag and Santa and his helper will make sure that every participant has a gift to open.

It might be fun to look at each other's old paddling photos so dust off those photo albums out and bring them to the party as well.

It’s been such a warm autumn that I find I’m not in the mood for the holidays. I need to get with the program because like it or not, the holidays are here. Let’s get together for dinner and then go look at the holiday decorations at Dorothy B. Oven Park on Thomasville Rd. on Tuesday, December 17. Join us at 5:30 pm for dinner at Milano Pizza located at 1874 Thomasville Rd, in Tallahassee. Let me know if you can join us so I can give Milano Pizza a headcount.

After dinner, we’ll head north on Thomasville Rd. to the park. Parking is at the Thomasville Road Baptist Church next door. We’ll leave our vehicles and enjoy walking through the park together. It may be cool by then so dress accordingly. Bring a flashlight to help find your way back to your vehicle after the walk.

January 1, 2025: Annual ACKC New Years Day Paddle and Potluck
The ACKC New Years Day Paddle and Potluck will be held at Otter Lake in Panacea again this year. Bring your boat, pfd and whistle and join us at Otter Lake Park located on Otter Lake Rd, Panacea, FL. Let’s plan to be ready to put-in for the paddle at 10:30 am. This begins a new membership year so bring membership dues ($20.00/person) and don’t forget to sign a new club waiver. We’ll send details about where to access the waiver as soon as that’s firmed up.

Immediately after the paddle (around 12:30 pm???), we’ll all meet at the Otter Lake Pavilion for the potluck. Bring a potluck dish to share and whatever non-alcoholic drink you choose. If you don’t want to paddle, come anyway and enjoy the food and socialize. The pavilion is covered so rain won’t be a problem and there is a bathroom on the premises.

Join us; start the year off right in the company of good friends.
