Hike from Wind Gap to 50th Anniv. Celebration of Leroy Smith Shelter on the AT

Please wear BLAZE ORANGE, Sunday Nov 24 is a hunting day in Pennsylvania. There is no hunting allowed on the AT, but we will be adjacent to State Game Lands.

Please join me for an out-and-back hike from the Wind Gap AT Parking Lot to the Leroy Smith Shelter. This will be a vigorous hike of a little more than 9 miles in total: about 4.5 miles to the shelter where we will join the 50th celebration at noon after which we will hike back the same 4.5 miles to our starting location.

We will meet at 9 AM at the Appalachian Trail Parking Lot in Wind Gap, GPS: (40.8607, -75.2926). After we gather, we will briefly, and carefully, walk a few hundred feet along Broadway to pick up the trail to head west (south) on the AT towards the Leroy Smith shelter.

Please bring adequate water. Also, I recommend you pack a lunch. There will be refreshments at the noontime celebration. We should be back to the cars by 3 pm.

Dogs are not allowed on this hike. Inclement weather the morning of the hike will cancel the event. Parking is limited at the Wind Gap parking lot, so please consider carpooling.
