Let's Hike Myakka State River Park
Details
Join us on this first hike of the season!
We'll start at 8:30 AM from the parking lot at Myakka River State Park South entrance. (The North entrance is only open on weekends.) The park opens at 8 AM and there is usually a line of cars waiting to get in, so arriving before 8 is recommended! There is a $6.00 fee per car unless you have a state park pass. After going through the entrance, take a hard right into the first parking lot in the park, we are meeting and hiking from this location!
We will walk along the river (parallel to the park road), through the cabin drive, returning to the park road very close to the entrance of the trail. The entrance is on our left as we walk on the park road. Turn left and enter at the sign that says "WATER TREATMENT UPGRADE". This point is less than a mile from the parking area. Turn right to arrive at this unmarked and little-traveled trail. The trail has private property that is kept wild, with some cattle on the left; state park and river are on the right. Two miles in, 2 miles out, so 4 miles total (over 5 including the walk to the trail). The trail is a little lumpy now, but not rugged!
Things to make your hiking more comfortable: hat, sunscreen, bug spray, snacks, and plenty of water. NO dogs please. Cell service may not be available.
This hike will be led by Susan Nash.
