Royal Arch in the Grand Canyon - toughest backpacking

Details

This is a rare opportunity to reach the Western most end of the Grand Canyon. This will be an exploratory hike in that I have not done this hike before. This is among the toughest hikes in the canyon so if I have not hiked with you I will need a hike leader to vouch for you.

South Bass trail-head access is thru Havasupai Tribe land, that is closed and gate is locked. We need to add 7.2 miles on dirt road both ways if we don’t find alternative way to get to the trail-head. We will need 4WD.

Day 0: Drive to the tribe land and car camp on Kaibab National Forest land OR to the trail-head TBD.
Day 1: 7.2 miles on dirt road + 8 miles on the trail to just above the Royal arch drainage DRY CAMP unless we get rain.
Day 2: About 6 miles to camp around the Royal Arch and time to explore
Day 3: There will be a 20 foot rappel to navigate to Toltec Beach and about 3 miles on exposed trail. We are taking the trail to the right, left is ledges.
Day 4: Day hike to Elves Chasm about 2 miles from Toltec Beach lots of rock hopping, if comfortable hike to the upper Elves Chasm.
Day 5: 14-15 mile to South Bass Beach to have water and camp. It is slow going for about 2 miles rock hopping then cut up a canyon and have to climb up some lodges. Once on Tonto it is not so hard.
Day 6: Hike out 7.5 miles on trail + 7.2 on dirt road.

There are tons of mice at all camp spots have your food protected all the time
We can shorten the trip if we find alternative way to get to the TH.
Cost is $75, once approved I will send you info on how to pay.
