What we’re about
Hello,
This Meetup community is organised by LEVEL and focuses on all things art and culture!
LEVEL is a group of experts who believe in power of art to initiate personal transformation. We deliver high quality talks and discussions that improve cultural competence and expand our own emotional intelligence through art.
The aim of the project is to use artistic practices (like painting, architecture, fashion, language etc) to explore different meanings, philosophies and values of foreign world views. Dismantling stereotypes, cliches and prejudices in a peaceful way of learning holds a beautiful potential to build compassion towards others and simply enjoy the process of understanding arts.
We offer online lectures - join our events and embark on a journey towards a new perspective!

See all- The Ouija Board- Spine Chilling EntertainmentLink visible for attendees
The Ouija board, often regarded as a tool for spiritual communication, has a complex and intriguing history that intertwines mysticism, popular culture, and the human desire to connect with the unknown. Originating in the 19th century during a period of heightened interest in Spiritualism, the Ouija board was marketed as a parlour game, but its roots lie in ancient practices. Patented in 1890 by Elijah Bond and later popularised by William Fuld, the board’s association with the supernatural grew as stories of spirit communication spread. Throughout the 20th century, the Ouija board’s image shifted, from a harmless game to a symbol of occult danger, thanks to its portrayal in horror films and literature. Despite its controversial reputation, the Ouija board remains a cultural touchstone, reflecting society’s fascination with the afterlife and the paranormal. Are you ready for a lecture dedicated to this fascinating game? It might send some chills down your spine….

- Japanese Calligraphy: 'match'Link visible for attendees£7.00
This is a series of workshops designed by Azumi Uchitani to explore Japanese culture through the art of calligraphy and language. We will meet bi-weekly, slowly moving from season to season and uncovering new characters, rituals, concepts and beliefs deeply rooted in Japanese lifestyle. Each event we will centre around a new symbol: we will learn its meaning, discuss a poem about it, meditate and experience the power of the concept through calligraphy practice.
### Match: 試合
We’re thrilled to announce our upcoming Japanese Calligraphy workshop, where we’ll explore the concept of 試合 (Shiai), meaning “match” or “game.” Often used in the context of sports or martial arts, Shiai refers to a competitive event where participants test their skills and spirit. In this session, we’ll discuss the cultural significance of Shiai in Japan and how competition fosters growth and resilience. Participants will also have the opportunity to practice making this powerful kanji with ink and brushes, using traditional Japanese calligraphy techniques. Join us for an immersive experience combining art and culture!
