The mission of REI Experiences is to provide a fun, motivational, safe, non-competitive and inclusive learning environment for participants to explore outdoor adventure activities. Try something new, level up an existing skill, or discover hidden gems in your own backyard with our expert guides and instructors. This Meetup Group is open to participants of all abilities, and will serve as a resource for sharing and connecting through REI Experiences. To reserve a spot in any class or trip, you must register at REI.com/events. Spots cannot be reserved through/by Meetup.

Join REI to learn the fundamentals of outdoor rock climbing in this hands-on experience. We'll focus on building the skills you need to continue your climbing journey, including proper belay techniques to keep your fellow climbers protected while they're off the ground. We'll cover necessary knots and give you the chance to practice basic outdoor climbing techniques, with some personalized instruction along the way. Blue Ridge Mountains Overnight Backpacking Trip | REI Classes & EventsBeloved by locals and admired by adventurers nationwide, the Blue Ridge Mountains boast pristine wilderness, iconic Appalachian backcountry, and limitless tranquility. On this overnight backpacking class, we'll explore meandering trails and scenic overlooks while keeping an eye out for the critters that call this area home. We'll spend the night at a secluded campsite near a cascading stream. Along the way we'll discuss the essentials of backpacking, including setting up a proper campsite, loading a pack correctly, filtering water, and camp cooking techniques. We'll also offer insight into the region's history and ecosystem. This trip is perfect for first-time backpackers and those with a bit of hiking experience. We love exploring the Blue Ridge area and we know you will too! Transportation from Asheville is provided, as well as all required gear (backpack, tent, sleeping bag, pad, stove, all cookware, trekking poles, and water filters) and food.
