What we’re about

Founded in 1978, The ATHENS HASH HOUSE HARRIERS (AH3) are part of a global running group that organizes a run and walk every week in interesting areas in and around Athens. We meet every Sunday 11am all the year round except for a couple of months in the summer.
A trail is laid by a runner called the HARE that allows both fast and slow runners and walkers to exercise for between 1 and 2 hours and then to meet back to reward themselves  with some beer or other refreshments and enjoy some fun in a group gathering called the hasher’s CIRCLE.
Afterwards there is the option to go on to lunch in a local Taverna or sometimes at one of the hasher’s residences.
New members of all ages are welcome. There is no membership fee, just a 3 euro donation for each run to cover the cost of the refreshments.

Our aim is to make exercising enjoyable and to have some fun with old and new friends. We are non-politically correct and often make jokes about each other without intending offense.  In this way our members (called hashers) have an opportunity to forget their problems for a couple of hours and reduce the stress that we all suffer from modern city living. Regular members are given amusing hash names by which they are afterwards known. Members come from all walks of life, rich or poor (including diplomats, businessmen, engineers, teachers, artists, students, and many others)  but are all treated equally. We have hashers visiting from many other parts of the world. Likewise, if you become a hasher you will find instant friends in almost any country you visit.

If you would like some more information e-mail:  [email protected]  -or- see our website www.athenshash.com.  You might also like to see our Facebook page (search for Athens hash).
PLEASE NOTE: The Hash in our name does not refer to hashish. It is the name that the first-ever hashers (working in Asia) gave to the awful food at the restaurant where they met after their run. They called the restaurant the Hash House. Harrier is another name for a runner.
