Join us for our weekly jazz meetup! Players of all levels are welcome. Please RSVP if you're planning on coming.
LOCATION
We rehearse at "Space ATX", located at 7915 Menchaca Rd. We'll leave a comment on the event before the event starts with the room number. Otherwise, the front desk can direct you.
COST
The cost of the event is $15 to cover the rehearsal room rental. If we end up in one large room we will reduce it to $10. You can venmo/Apple Pay/Zelle the organizer after the event. If you're new and want to stop by to meet the group and see how things work, you're welcome to as well, no need to pay.
FORMAT
Organizers will put together a list of songs beforehand, and rotate them every month. These will be jazz standards, with the aim being to become well versed in songs that are likely to be called at a jazz jam session. Each session is 3 hours, and we typically run through the song list twice, with a short break in between. For each song we'll play the melody at the beginning and end (ie head in, head out), with all players having an opportunity to solo in between. Players of all levels are welcome.
ATTENDEES
Please sign up early, we will try to rent enough rooms based on the who signs up.
EQUIPMENT
For drummers, check with the organizers, usually someone will bring their drum kit. For guitars and bass players all rooms have a mixing board with a PA system and floor monitors, so you only need to bring your instrument cable. For piano players please bring your own keyboard. For vocalists you can rent a mic from the front desk, or give the attendees a heads up and one of us can bring one.
AFTERWARDS
We normally grab a bite and a drink after the rehearsal at "The Little Darlin'", located at 6507 Circle S Rd.
SONGS
Call out any tune from the Real Book 6th edition.
We also have a Dropbox folder with real books for C, Bb and Eb instruments. If you'd like access to the folder, message one of the organizers and we can provide a link to it.
