Calling all adventurous jazz enthusiasts! Please join us for Epistrophy Arts' highly anticipated fall series featuring 2 rare Texas appearances by groundbreaking ensembles who are redefining the jazz tradition.

September 22 8pm
@ The Rosette 3908 Avenue B Ste 116, Austin, TX 78751
William Parker's Mayan Space Station
(William Parker-bass, Gerald Cleaver-drums,Ava Mendoza-guitar)

William Parker, a towering figure in contemporary jazz, is renowned for his boundary-pushing compositions and profound improvisational skills. With a career spanning over four decades, Parker has made indelible marks on the world of jazz through his work as a bassist, composer, and bandleader. His latest ensemble, the Mayan Space Station, is set to transport audiences to new musical dimensions with a fusion of traditional jazz influences and avant-garde experimentation. As Jazzwise has said of the trio, “Over the distinctively ‘swung funk’ grooves of her accompanists Mendoza plays glistening, keening melodies that occasionally become a kind of splintered rock & roll, and she also creates off the wall soundscapes, daringly stretching tones to suggest a police siren distorted by Sun Ra’s space probe.”

September 25, 8PM
@The Draylen Mason Music Studios at KMFA (43 Navasota)
Tarbaby
(Orrin Evans-piano, Eric Revis-bass, Nasheet Waits-drums)

"A fine and provocative post-bop unit,” says The New York Times, “TARBABY does what it wants.” The jazz combo earns its prerogative with an impeccable pedigree. Pianist Orrin Evans is a “poised artist with . . . ideas at his command” (NY Times). Drummer Nasheet Waits, son of jazz legend Freddie Waits, is a key member of Jason Moran’s Bandwagon. Bassist Eric Revis, a longtime Branford Marsalis collaborator, “stretches the jazz fabric without ripping it apart”

Epistrophy Arts is offering a bundle that includes admission to Mayan Space Station on September 22, and Tarbaby (Evans,Revis,Waits) at KMFA on September 25. we will offer individual tickets to Mayan Space Station on August 15) *click here for tix*
