Stand-Up Paddleboarding (SUP) is a popular water sport that combines elements of surfing, canoeing and kayaking. This "Learn to SUP" class covers the basics and provides essential skills to get you started.
Class Tuition: $199 per person includes 3h personalized instruction and all paddleboards, paddles, and safety equipment. Small class size, minimum 3 students to 1 instructor ratio. Class is taught by ACA certified instructor. Sign up by calling 832-686-3231
Here’s what you can expect in this SUP class:
- Introduction to Equipment:
Board types: inflatable vs. hard boards and their uses.
Paddle: Components and how to adjust it to the correct high.
PDF: Importance of wearing a personal flotation device (PFD). - Safety Tips:
Water Safety: Understanding local water conditions, weather, and tides.Self-Rescue: Techniques for getting back on the board after falling off. Traffic Rules: Sharing water spaces with other paddlers and boats. - Basic Techniques:
Mounting the Board: How to get on the board from the shore or water.
Paddling Posture: Correct stance (feet shoulder-width apart, knees slightly bent) and how to hold the paddle.
Basic Strokes: Forward stroke, reverse stroke, and turning strokes (sweep stroke and draw stroke).
Balance and Stability: Tips for maintaining balance and recovering from wobbles. - On-Water Practice:
Launching: Techniques for entering the water smoothly.
Paddling: Practicing basic strokes and maneuvers.
Turning: Learning how to turn the board efficiently.
Stopping: How to stop the board using reverse strokes. - Advanced Tips:
Maneuvering in Different Conditions: Paddling in waves, wind, or currents. Fitness and Drills: Exercises to improve SUP skills and fitness on the board. SUP Etiquette: Proper behavior on the water to respect other paddlers and marine life.
What to Bring:
Clothing: Wear quick-dry, comfortable clothing suitable for water activities.
Footwear: Water shoes or barefoot, depending on preference and conditions.
Sun Protection: Sunscreen, hat, and sunglasses.
Hydration: Water bottle to stay hydrated.
