This is a terrific Texas Whisky Show! It is in Houston and if you have been before, it is in the same place, The Citadel. It is a beautiful event and I highly recommend going. It is doable to leave Austin Saturday morning, check into the hotel and get ready (please dress up as this is a really nice event) and then attend.

It starts at 5pm (This is assuming VIP, which I recommend.) (If you do get tickets for one of the Bourbon tasting events, it starts at 4pm.) Then return home on Sunday.

Welcome to The 9th Annual Whiskey Social. We are one of the largest annual whiskey and spirits tastings in Texas, featuring hundreds of whiskies and spirits from around the world, select single barrel offerings, a cigar tent and food and snacks to match.
The only place in Texas you'll find vintage spirits going back decades!!

The event is set for Saturday November 16th, 2024 at the Citadel in Houston.

Introduction to Scotch is a small class offered to members of the Austin Scotch Lovers who wish to learn more about Scotch Whisky. It is offered by various members of the Austin Scotch Lovers at their homes. You may bring a friend with you, but please indicate this in the RSVP. It is $20 per person, payable at the class. Each leader will determine what form of payment they accept. The photo used here is just a general photo for illustrative purposes, not indicative of what Scotch will be tasted. The payment covers the education offered and any costs incurred in offering the class excluding alcohol.

Each class will be different and so you may like to take this class more than once from the different members who are offering them. Each member brings their own experience and focus to the class and they may be different each time.

The types of Scotch whisky

How Scotch is made

Different Casks and how they affect whisky

What age statement means

You may also learn:

Different ways to enjoy Scotch

How to use your nose and mouth to enhance the taste

How different glassware affects the taste

How you can find Scotches to suit your palate and build your home bar

This class emphasizes education and while you will enjoy some whisky during the class, it is not focused on a large consumption of alcohol. That being said, if you can use ride share or have a designated driver, it is always a good idea. You attend any Austin Scotch Lover's event at your own risk and we do kindly ask that you always take responsibility for your intake and choices.

This class is taught by Catherine Sikora and hosted by Susan P and will be at her home in Downtown Austin. The exact address will be emailed to the group who has added their RSVP just before the class. This class will be held inside. Attendance is limited to please add your RSVP as soon as possible to reserve your seat.

If you would like to host a class in your home, please let Catherine know. You may like to get some friends together and have one of the leaders come to your home and give you a class or perhaps you would be interested in offering your home as a location for other members to come to a class led by one of the Intro team. Please join us at our 16th Cigar and Scotch Social at the South Habana House Cigars in Penn Field. Jonathan Perry will be our lovely host this evening, and we do hope that all you Scotch and Cigar Lovers, but especially those who live further south, will be able to make it in for this social! This is our traditional December social, celebrating between Christmas and New Year's at Habana House!

Bring a bottle of Scotch to share, buy a cigar from Habana House, and come to our 16th social at this lovely Cigar Lounge! The bottle does not have to be new and you will take it home with you at the end of the evening. Habana House welcomes the Austin Scotch Lovers for our Bring Your Own Scotch Socials. You do not have to smoke, but please purchase a cigar from Habana House if you want to smoke this night! They do not charge us for use of the space and I like to support them. Also, other Habana House customers will be in the store and sometimes interact with us. Feel free to bring a snack to share as well.

Habana House is located next door to the former Opal Divine's Penn Field and most of the parking for these places is actually across the street from them. This is one of my favorite events because of the low (or no) cost and the possibility of meeting so many members all at once! Though Habana House does have a state of the art smoke ventilation system, it is still quite smoky and so be aware of this if you are sensitive to smoke. I hope to see you there! Please RSVP if you are planning to come so that I can apprise them of our number and also to encourage more participation! Please keep your RSVP up to date.

Please ride share if possible, and drink responsibly. There will often be more Scotch to try than you may be able to in one evening, so pour small samples and enjoy seconds on the ones you especially love. We love Scotch, but respect it as a powerful spirit!

Galaxy Whisky Gala is a classy whisky show complete with delicious food, cigars, and a red carpet photo op! You can sample whiskies from all over the world, with an emphasis on single malts made in America, Scotland and other countries! In 2024 there were over 150 items to sample and the next one will easily double that. There is a silent auction, live music, and a cigar patio! Galaxy Whisky Gala is a charity fundraiser for Bears for Bairns, a recognized 501(c)(3) charity which brings comfort and support to children stuck in hospitals at Christmas.

Check out the brand partners from 2024. Soon the brands signing up for 2025 will start appearing on the website as well. When you are at the website, you can also check out the web based app from 2024 to see the whisky that was poured and even a map of the room!

Included in a GA ticket is a branded wee Glencairn glass, a branded tote bag with some surprise goodies in it, an opportunity for a a digital photo on the red carpet and entrance into the Gala at 7pm to sample the excellent whiskies and delicious food.

The VIP ticket allows an extra 1.5 hours at the Gala, with entrance at 5:30pm, and access to premium whisky from most of the vendors who bring special bottles just for VIP pours. VIP ticket holders also have access to Whisky Expansion Classes. These are very limited due to the size of the classroom at the hotel and fill up almost as soon as they are announced. There will be four offered this year and the sign up will be announced later in the year.

Dress code:
This is a formal event complete with a red carpet entrance, so wear your finest kilts, suits, and evening gowns! Attendees are expected to wear appropriate Gala attire and will be refused entrance without it. The minimum requirement is a jacket, dress shirt, and slacks, or dressy outfits or dresses. No T-shirts, jeans, athletic wear, torn clothing or shorts allowed, and will not be admitted.

We have kilts available for purchase on our website, including an exclusive Galaxy Whisky Gala Tartan! Please see the website for information on how you can get your own gorgeous custom made kilt in a variety of tartan designs!
