MARCH 7 - 10 - WINTER MOUNTAINEERING IN THE SIERRA NEVADA (SPAIN) - LONG WEEKEND

This trip does not require previous winter walking experience, only a good level of fitness for some big days out in the hills. With just a couple of days off work we can bag some of the highest and snowiest peaks in Spain!

Cost - £499. Nights - 3. Guide ratio maximum - 1:8.

On this trip we will be working with local expert winter alpine guides to summit some of the highest mountains in mainland spain. They will not only provide the equipment that we need but will also teach us the skills and techniques necessary to progress safely in the high mountains. We will not need the use of ropes in these mountains but we will be walking with crampons and ice axes or snowshoes.

Will be staying high in the mountains at Alburgue Universario. A mountain hostel run by the university with a cafe bar, a terrace with mountain views and a big comfy lounge with a fireplace. The rooms are in simple shared rooms with bunk beds, dinner and breakfast is included each day.

All transport is included to and from Malaga as well as to and from our hikes. Just book your flight and pack your bags!

Our itinerary for the weekend (weather dependant) is as follows:

FRIDAY

• Arrive into Malaga and transfer from the airport to the Albergue Universitario in the Sierra Nevada mountains
• Prepare our equipment for the following days
• Accommodation and dinner at the Albergue Universitario

SATURDAY

• An introduction to winter walking skills and equipment
• Ascent to the summit of Veleta (3396m, 3rd highest peak) via the San Juan Valley hiking from the Albergue
• Accommodation and dinner at the Albergue Universitario

SUNDAY

• Transport from the Albergue (1.30h)
• Ascent to Pico del Caballo (3015m)
• Return to the Hostel
• Accommodation and dinner at the Albergue

MONDAY

• Transfers back to Malaga after breakfast for flights home.
