Name: Granite Mtn Hotshots Trail & Acker Music Night (Prescott AZ)

The main purpose of this outing is to hike the Granite Mountain Hotshots Memorial Trail at Yarnell AZ on Saturday. The trailhead is about a 3.5 hour drive each way from Tucson, so we'll overnight in Prescott on Friday night. I have chosen this particular Friday (Dec 13) because the town is presenting the 36th annual [Acker Night Musical Showcase](https://www.ackernight.com/acker-night).

On Acker Night, streets are closed and people stroll through downtown Prescott, taking in the holiday lights and listening to live music from more than [500 performers](https://www.ackernight.com/2024-acker-night-performers). More than 100 Prescott businesses open their doors to these volunteer musicians with the shared goal of keeping music alive for local school kids. While admission is free, all tips to artists provide music lessons and instruments to local youth and support school music programs.

As an added bonus, Courthouse Square in downtown Prescott (aka Arizona's Christmas City) will be decorated and lit up for the holidays.

On Saturday we will drive to the Granite Mountain Hotshots Memorial State Park near Yarnell AZ and hike the Hotshots and Journey Trails. The hike is 7 miles roundtrip with 1,750' elevation gain. The hike will start at 8:45am.

Prior to our outing, I HIGHLY recommend you watch the movie ["Only the Brave"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_89jRJWvec) as it will enhance your experience during the hike.

Prescott hotel rooms may get scare and pricey due to Acker Night so book early. The historic Hassayampa Inn has no vacancy but I just booked a room at the [Days Inn by Wyndham Prescott](https://www.wyndhamhotels.com/days-inn/prescott-arizona/days-inn-prescott/overview) which appears to be in a relatively convenient location for both events. Rooms start at $124 + tax and you can cancel without penalty up to 4pm the day prior. The motel is undergoing renovation during the daytime. Feel free to book a room where ever you like or even camp if you wish.

Friday - Drive to Prescott, check into hotel, meet for early dinner in downtown Prescott and attend Acker Music Night (5:30-8:30pm).

Saturday - After checking out of hotel, drive to Granite Mountain Hotshots Memorial State Park and hike. Drive home stopping for a late lunch along the way.

We'll arrange carpools as the outing approaches, once I know who is going and where they are staying. All roads are paved highways.
