This will be the final hike for those of you participating in the 2024 Hike-On Challenge. Hikers participating in the challenge will receive priority if there is a waiting list.

**Hike Overview**
Please join me on this wonderful loop over in Point Reyes. It is a full day of adventure, featuring both high forest peaks and ridges, and lovely views of the Pacific Ocean. We first climb up to Mount Wittenberg, then traverse downward along the Woodward Valley Trail, enjoying the wonderful views as we go. Our lunch stop will be a short detour to Coast Camp where we will enjoy the relaxing sound of the waves rolling in. After lunch, can look for whales or wildflowers as we wander along the Coast Trail. We have another climb up Sky Trail the that brings us back to the ridge, then we continue along several lovely wooded trails until we eventually descend Horse Trail to the parking lot. This hike features a full day of some of the best trails Point Reyes has to offer. Although this is a strenuous hike, you won’t be disappointed! The scenery is spectacular. The hike is 18.4 gorgeous miles, with 2 steady climbs, one before lunch and one after. The rest of the day the trails meander up and down. I rate the hike strenuous for the distance and elevation gain. This is not a beginner’s hike and is only suited for fit and conditioned hikers. I will hike at a moderate pace, 20-25 minute miles, taking time for short breaks along the way. You are expected to be able to keep to this average pace. If you want to go faster that is fine, but be prepared to wait for me at all trail junctions. This is not a race. I estimate the hike will be about 8.5 hours, with us returning just before sunset.

**Dogs**
No Dogs. Sorry but they are not allowed on the trails at Point Reyes National Seashore.

**Be Prepared**
Please prepare with warm layered clothing as the temperatures will surely change during the day. Bring sunscreen and/or hat, sturdy hiking shoes/boots and at least two to three liters of water. Bring a lunch and snacks. There are bathrooms and water at Coast Camp if open. Poles are recommended if you use them. I recommend bringing a flashlight.

**Cautions**
Poison oak or stinging nettle may be found along the trails. Rattlesnakes are a possibility. The trails may have rocks or roots that could trip you so please pay attention. The trails will be wet and muddy in places.

**Rain**
Rain or severe fog the day of the hike cancels the event. Wet or muddy trails do not.

**Meeting Point/Staging Area**
We will meet at the Bear Valley Visitor Center. There is a sign board in front of the visitor center where we will gather.

**The Route**
Head out Bear Valley Trail. Turn R on Mount Wittenberg Tr. Turn R on the Mount Wittenberg Trail going up to the peak. Return back to the trail junction and continue on Mount Wittenberg Trail until it connects with Sky Trail. Go R on Woodward Valley all the way going down to the coast. When it ends at Coast Trail, go R to Coast Camp. We will have lunch here. After lunch, return back on Coast Trail and Turn L at Sky Trail. Stay on Sky Trail all the way to the junction with Z Ranch Trail , L at Z Ranch Trail, R at Horse Trail, after the bridge R at Morgan Trail and return to parking lot.
