Join us in celebrating the arrival of cooler weather with a long, gorgeous hike around Lake Chabot in [Anthony Chabot Regional Park](https://www.ebparks.org/parks/anthony-chabot). This is a great time of year for seeing deer, turkeys, hawks, and geese. We will enjoy great views of the lake and Honker’s Bay most of this hike.

This hike is long and varied with sections of paved trail, wide dirt trail and single track trail. We start uphill for the first half mile and then enjoy several miles of mostly flat / rolling trail. About half way through we will have another short but steep climb, and then it’s all downhill / rolling trail from there.

Light rain and the hike is on. A downpour will cancel.

**BRING**
\- $5 parking fee
\- Hiking boots or trail runners with excellent traction
\- Warm layers & a rain jacket
\- Sunscreen / glasses / hat
\- At least 2 liters of water; 3 liters recommended
\- Snack & lunch
\- Poles optional
\- Long sleeves and long pants recommended as these trails frequently have poison oak

**HIKING LEVEL STRENUOUS**
Elevation changes of over 1,000 feet, over 10 miles
There WILL be at least 2 steep inclines and descents
MUST be an experienced hiker, must able to keep pace
Very good physical condition, with a regular exercise routine
No recent injuries, illnesses or surgeries

**GETTING HERE:** We will meet at the park sign at the [Chabot Park Parking Lot at the end of Estudillo Ave in San Leandro](https://maps.app.goo.gl/pBpWwKn8kQc9Kq5J7). There is a $5 parking fee. Sometimes cell phone reception can be spotty in this area, so download the map before departing.

We leave PROMPTLY so please allow time to arrive, park and meet us by the starting time. Any questions - pm or text me at 510-708-3273.

**ATTENDANCE POLICY:** Please be respectful. No-shows and late cancellations are only ok in extenuating circumstances. If your plans change, we request that you update your attendance AT LEAST 72 hours in advance as a courtesy to the group. If you are a no-show 2 times, you will be removed from the group. Contributors will have priority from the waitlist.

**​​WAITLIST:** If a hike is full, contributors will take priority coming off the waitlist. If you are on the waitlist, be sure to check if a spot opened before the hike. Please remove yourself from the waitlist if you are no longer able to attend. Waitlists can move quickly and spots often open before the hike, so please check often, including the day before, to see if you are on the hike.

**CONTRIBUTIONS:** We are asking members for voluntary annual contributions (once per year) to sustain the group. Unfortunately, Meetup is not free and our volunteer team is working hard to plan activities and maintain our incredible community.
