A Chess Afternoon at OJ Mac's
Details
Owen, proprietor of OJ Mac's, reached out to The Bayonne Chess Society & Club asking if we "could bring chess to his place". I said, "Chess isn't the issue. It's whether we can find people who love chess or want to learn chess in lower Bayonne. We've done that in upper Bayonne. Now, we have to see who has the most players".
We have players of all skill levels from beginner to Masters in upper Bayonne. We have players of all ages. We have seniors learning how to play. We have kids learning how to play. Chess is becoming a thing to do in Bayonne.
What does lower Bayonne bring to the chess board?? Interesting.
I told him that we're already working with 'Mom and Pop Collectibles across the street, as they asked us about the same thing. They're doing Saturday evenings starting at 6 pm. I suggested we go with Saturday afternoons from 1 pm to 6pm. This way players can decide to stay at OJ Macs, and continue playing, or they can go across the street to play Chess or boardgames.
So, that's what we're doing. We're adding 'OJ Mac's' and 'Mom and Pop Collectible' to 'The Vic', as venues looking to help continue making chess grow in Bayonne. 'The Vic' by the way is on Monday nights. They've been an excellent venue for us. Along with all the other venues we play at throughout Bayonne.
We have 500+ members in upper Bayonne. Can we get 500 members in lower Bayonne ?? Only time will tell. Age doesn't matter. Skill level doesn't matter. Having fun is what matters.
See you at OJ Macs on Saturday afternoons.
Every week on Saturday until April 26, 2025
