This workshop provides Black women with a safe space to reflect on grief, mortality, and how these experiences can catalyze personal growth and legacy building. Participants will engage in a journey that moves from acknowledging grief to embracing transformation and legacy. Through personal experiences and cultural exploration, attendees will learn to channel grief into empowerment, creating ripples of healing that extend to family and community.

Workshop Agenda:
1. Acknowledging and Validating Grief

  • Grounding exercise and group introductions.
  • Discussion of emotional, physical, and cognitive responses to grief.
  • Exploration of societal norms and cultural factors affecting Black women's grief experiences.
  • Sub-section: Parenting Through Grief
  • Open communication with children about loss.
  • Balancing emotional needs as a parent.
  • Creating family rituals for processing grief.

2. Exploring Personal Mortality

  • Introduction to the “Stages of Grief” model and its relevance.
  • Reflecting on personal mortality and its impact on how we process loss.
  • Group discussion on embracing life with intention and clarity.

3. Processing Grief and Transformation

  • Understanding grief as a dynamic journey.
  • Exploring practical ways to transform grief into purpose.
  • Sub-section: Creative Expression
  • Using journaling, art, and storytelling as outlets for grief.

4. Legacy & Rebirth

  • Discussion on creating meaningful legacies.
  • Guided reflection on personal legacy projects.
  • Exploring how grief leads to personal growth and community empowerment.

5. Cross-Cultural Perspectives on Death

  • Introduction to African and Indigenous death practices.
  • Celebrating life through cultural traditions (e.g., Dia de los Muertos).
  • Normalizing conversations about death to empower participants.

Note:
Participants are encouraged to bring a journal or any creative materials they wish to use during the workshop.
