What we’re about

Welcome to the dance group.

Beacon Dance Beat plays a vibrant mix of music mostly from the 60’s to present with a special love for R&B, Funk, Disco, Soul and all Latin rhythmic styles. The song list, ever expanding, also includes Blues, Reggae, Rock, Swing, Afro-Latin, Jazz, Gospel, International and more, always aiming for the music to be moving, exciting and beautiful.

Song requests are welcomed. The music catalog contains nearly 3000 songs and most requests are available. If not, we will always have it for the next dance.

DJs Rhoda Averbach and Al Brandonisi began presenting monthly dances in 2012 at the Howland Cultural Center in Beacon where, for over three years, this event brought people together from all over Dutchess County and provided a place of friendship and enjoyment in the community. In early 2016 they moved to two new locations -- the Towne Crier Café in Beacon and at the Beacon Elks Lodge -- where they now hold monthly dances at each. They have hosted dances at other venues as well and are open to special occasions.

Beacon Dance Beat uses superb sound equipment and creates a warm and intimate ambiance for people to socialize. These events are informal, and even if you come alone, you can always find a friendly partner on the dance floor. Attire is whatever suits your mood - from blue jeans to dazzling sparkles. All are welcome: singles, couples, friends, strangers.

• Towne Crier Café: one Thursday per month. The Towne Crier Cafe, located in the heart of Beacon, is an iconic music facility which hosts outstanding talent, regional to international. It has a capacity of over 100. The restaurant specializes in fine, mid-priced, farm-fresh cuisine using local ingredients whenever possible, and desserts are made fresh daily by acclaimed pastry chef Mary Ciganer. The rear performance room where the dances take place is separate from the restaurant, and has full bar and menu service.

• Beacon Elks Club: one Friday or Saturday per month. The Lodge is a non-profit organization which has provided services to the community for over 90 years. The lounge is roomy with a large wood floor space for dancing, the lighting is low and friendship surrounds. Admission includes a wide variety of delicious complimentary snacks. A full cash bar is also available. Must be at least 18 years old.

NOTE:  We have various forms of outreach, so the number of Meetup RSVPs is not the same as total attendance. We usually have about 25-45 at the Towne Crier and 40-50 at the Elks Club (always more or less - never can tell).

Your comments, questions and song requests are always welcome. Send a message or call (845) 765-0667 (up until 9:30 PM).

Looking forward to getting together soon,

Rhoda and Al
