A 6.5 miles circular pub walk from the Alford Arms in Frithsden, Hertfordshire which should take not much more than 2.5 hours. The Alford Arms has a wonderful philosophy of “children, dogs and muddy boots are welcome”. The walking route sets off through woods towards Berkhamsted Common, through Ashridge Park and on to Ashridge House. From here, we head towards Great Gaddesden then across fields to the Buddhist monastery at St. Margaret’s. We pick up a familiar route back to Nettleden along Spooky Lane and back to the pub.
There are lovely views throughout and the chance to see plenty of wildlife. The route includes several long and steady climbs and descents. The paths are firm in the main but can get muddy after rain or in winter. There are no stiles on route, just some kissing gates to negotiate. There are a couple of short sections of walking along the country lanes so take care of traffic at these points. Two of the fields we cross may be holding horses, cattle or sheep so please take care with dogs.
The full postal address is: Alford Arms, Frithsden, Hemel Hempstead HP1 3DD.
