Midweek walk: St Albans Circular Walk

This is a 6.5 mile circular walk which begins in Verulamium Park, along the ruins of the Roman wall, with views of the Abbey & lake. We continue through St. Michael’s village, passing some of its characterful properties. A short distance later we’ll reach Childwickbury, a beautiful hamlet where we’ll see Childwickbury Manor, the former home of the American film maker, Stanley Kubrick. We then pass through a fruit farm & eventually through the Batchwood Estate woods & across Batchwood golf course. We will visit the Waffle House for our end of walk refreshments. (There will be a couple of very brief sections walking along/across busy main roads.) If you have time, how about adding on a saunter along Fishpool Street to visit the Cathedral/see the Christmas lights/do a bit of Xmas shopping 🎄

The walk will take approximately 2.5-3 hours.

The meeting point will be adjacent to the Waitrose car park entrance. Please use Waitrose’ post code, AL3 4JZ for your satnav destination, but don’t park in the supermarket car park. Park either along the roadside in Mayne Avenue, or in the lay-by alongside the park in King Harry Lane.

Please note that this walk is not led by a qualified leader and, as such, isn't covered by insurance. Be sure to wear suitable boots and clothing. The organiser cannot be held responsible for any injuries, however caused. Members are expected to take responsibility for their own preparation and safety including adequate fluids & weather protection. Please be sure to make the walk leader aware if you have any medical conditions.
Dogs are welcome as always but please be mindful to keep them on leads for roads and around other animals.
