Women’s Srimad Bhagavatam reading for Spiritual Development

Details

In this reading group we explore how to channel our occupation and daily activities towards supporting our spiritual and personal development.

Reading Vedic literature widen our understanding of the world and increase clarity in everything that we tend to question: Who am I? What is the goal of my life? Why is there so much suffering? Why bad things happen to good people? How do I find God? What is death? How do I live life aligned with its purpose?

During the hour together we contemplate all of these questions, and more, in a sacred environment supportive of our self-realization.

I consider the Srimad Bhagavatam not just a book, but a seminar which takes us to different places to promote our growth, expansion, and self-actualization.

A false conception is that women do not speak philosophy. This woman's group provides a sacred space for us to defy the norms. Let's enjoy the process of discussing ancient philosophical principles and question our conditioning in an inclusive and safe environment.

I have traveled the world as a monk, managed an ashram, and supported countless women to be empowered in their spirituality. I have over twenty years experience designing and facilitating personal development seminars. I love holding space for women to experience their pain and anguish safely as a cathartic means for metamorphosis. You can read more about my story https://www.bhaktiyogaretreat.org/my-story/

There are no study requirements or attendance expectations for this reading group. The only ground rule is RESPECT - respect for the text, respect for the author that purported the text, and respect for each other.

It is also expected that we express everything truthfully - agreement, disagreement, triggers, hurt, dislikes, etc., in a respectful way. In this way, everyone is free to authentically share themselves.

In order to grow spiritually, we need to know how to step out of our comfort zone. In this group, no topic is taboo. Expect to potentially discuss sex and sexuality, abortion, drugs, capital punishment, and other uncomfortable topics The text will not always be comfortable to decipher, it pushes our buttons and triggers the depths of our fears; however, in this sacred space we will clear the blockages preventing us from shining in true color.

I hope you do join us for this adventure in conscious living.

I will share the text on the screen on Zoom. Still if you would like to receive a hard copy of the Srimad Bhagavatam canto one, please contact me and I will ship it to you.

Here are some references of how the Srimad Bhagavatam is described:

Completely rejecting all religious activities which are materially motivated, this Bhagavata Purana propounds the highest truth, which is understandable by those devotees who are fully pure in heart. The highest truth is reality distinguished from illusion for the welfare of all. Such truth uproots the threefold miseries. This beautiful Bhagavatam, compiled by the great sage Vyasadeva [in his maturity], is sufficient in itself for God realization. What is the need of any other scripture? As soon as one attentively and submissively hears the message of Bhagavatam, by this culture of knowledge the Supreme Lord is established within his heart.

O expert and thoughtful men, relish Srimad-Bhagavatam, the mature fruit of the desire tree of Vedic literatures. It emanated from the lips of Sri Sukadeva Gosvami. Therefore this fruit has become even more tasteful, although its nectarean juice was already relishable for all, including liberated souls. SB 1.1.2-3

In the above two slokas it has been definitely proved that the Srimad-Bhagavatam is the sublime literature which surpasses all other Vedic scriptures due to its transcendental qualities. It is transcendental to all mundane activities and mundane knowledge. In this sloka it is stated that Srimad-Bhagavatam is not only a superior literature but is the ripened fruit of all Vedic literatures. In other words, it is the cream of all Vedic knowledge. Considering all this, patient and submissive hearing is definitely essential. With great respect and attention, one should receive the message and lessons imparted by the Srimad-Bhagavatam.
