Florida Trail Association - Big Cypress Chapter

It is time to book your place for our 39th annual regional conference; being hosted this year by the Fisheating Creek Chapter and including our chapter, Tropical Trekkers, Happy Hoofers, Big Cypress and Alligator Amblers chapters. This year's theme is "Back to Basics".
The schedule of activities and programs will be provided to registered attendees by email. Activities will include Memorial Tree Creek Walk; Auction and WuzNu Sale; Historic Fort Center Trail; Nightly Campfire Circle; Knobby Knee Boardwalk; Wildlife and Plants Presentations.

This 10 page packet has the registration and all the information about the 18,514 acre Fisheating Creek WMA location, camping, catered meals and everything else you need to know.

Hike the Fakahatchee Strand and visit the Fakahatchee Hilton. Come hike in the thick of one of the largest Cypress strands in all the Everglades inside the Big Cypress. Home to the famed Ghost Orchid and ghost cypress stumps from the largest logging operation in the 1940's to 1950's, this is also the site of Florida's largest state park. This is a 7-mile round trip hike. We shall meet just beyond the entrance to the town of Copeland at the beginning of the Janes Scenic Drive where the pavement gives way to the old railroad grade. There, you will find bathrooms and a small visitors center of The Fakahatchee State Park. Bring lots of water, mosquito spray (though it should be not too bad0 and extra food for lunch and snacks on the go.
We meet at visitors center at 10, and car-a-van at 10:30am to the trailhead and then be on the trail by 11am

Celebrating Frankie's Pizza's 70th anniversary

Bird Road or 40th street, or State Road 976, sometimes known as SR976 is the mother road for retro Dade County. Some of South Florida's most beloved institutions are represented including Arbetter's Hot Dogs, one of the first Pollo Tropicals, Bird Bowl, Crest Cleaners, and without a doubt Miami's King of Pizza....Frankie's Pizza which is celebrating its 70th Anniversary.

We will meet at Frankie's Pizza on 91st Avenue and Bird Road (40th street) and proceed to walk to 87th Avenue as we visit, hear about and taste some items from one of the first Pollo Tropical restaurants, then cross the street and visit La Carreta then back over to the north side of Bird Rd. heading west to Arbetter's Hot Dogs then to Bird Bowl, and along the way visit other newer places all the way to SW 97 Ave and the old Burger king there, then we loop back across discussing long lost shops like Jets Florida Outdoors and work our way back to Frankie's stopping at even more iconic places.
