The Fakahatchee Hilton

Hike the Fakahatchee Strand and visit the Fakahatchee Hilton. Come hike in the thick of one of the largest Cypress strands in all the Everglades inside the Big Cypress. Home to the famed Ghost Orchid and ghost cypress stumps from the largest logging operation in the 1940's to 1950's, this is also the site of Florida's largest state park. This is a 7-mile round trip hike. We shall meet just beyond the entrance to the town of Copeland at the beginning of the Janes Scenic Drive where the pavement gives way to the old railroad grade. There, you will find bathrooms and a small visitors center of The Fakahatchee State Park. Bring lots of water, mosquito spray (though it should be not too bad0 and extra food for lunch and snacks on the go.
We meet at visitors center at 10, and car-a-van at 10:30am to the trailhead and then be on the trail by 11am
